The Chameleon Guitar was designed and built in the MIT Media Lab over a year-long process, starting with a preliminary, proof of concept, guitar. Then, using digital simulation and modeling tools, a fully detailed computer model of the guitar was built.
This was transferred to special machines, such as CNC, laser cutter and 3D printers, and combined different materials ranging from several types of wood, to aluminum, to carbon fiber and plastic.
All the made parts were fitted together and finished using traditional, hand-made methods based on the knowledge and experience of the violin maker Marco Coppiardi.
